Bianca Cabrera

Bianca teaches weekly in West Oakland at Project Bandaloop (Technical Practice for the Adventurous Dancer) and in San Francisco at ODC (Pop Up Choreo). In 2011, Bianca was Artist in Residence at Studio Gracia (SF) where she taught weekly and curated, produced, performed in and choreographed MayDay! MayDay! MayDay! a month long cabaret style performance series. In 2011, she was curated into ODC's Pilot program twice, returning as the facilitator of the second round. Through Pilot she created two new works, SLAM and Feral,which have gone on to be shown at TwinSpace (Anniversary Party), DanceGround Keriac (Makeup Mutiny) and Studio Gracia (The Salon.) Bianca has performed with Kim Epifano (Trolley Dances 2010) and LevyDance (Our Body Remembers, 2010.) She was an Artistic Director of CLUTCH (hang on), who collectively produced their eponymous evening length work at The Nomad Theater in Boulder, CO and at Project Bandaloop in West Oakland, CA in 2010. Formerly of Seattle, Bianca performed nationally with KT Niehoff's Lingo Dance from 2003-2011. Also as a dancer, she worked on projects with Paige Barnes, Amii LeGendre, Ricki Mason, and Kristen Tsiatsios, all of Seattle. She made dances under the moniker Bluish and performed improvisation with a music/dance quartet, Puree. Bianca performed as a showgirl with Seattle’s queer burlesque troupe, Burly Q and with Ricki Mason's The Launchettes. Bianca was often caught performing at Seattle fixtures such as Spin the Bottle, The Stay up Late Show, SFDI'S Off The Cuff and the Century Ballroom Cabarets. Ms. Cabrera has taught master classes and workshops at the Western Washington University, University of Montana, SDSU, St. Olaf College (MN), Reed College (OR), Kenyon College (OH), Oberlin College (OH), Cornish College (WA),Velocity Dance Center (WA), HaLo (WA), and CDC (CO). Bianca began her training in ballet and Graham Technique at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. She continued training at the Alvin Ailey School and the Martha Graham Center until finishing a BFA in dance at Cornish College of the Arts. Bianca’s work as a teacher, maker and performer is deeply connected to and influenced by the Seattle dance culture fostered by pioneers Amii LeGendre, Michele Miller, KT Niehoff and Alia Swersky.
